| Gokyo Lake & Kalapattar |
 The
Mount Everest National Park has been a popular destination
for trekkers and climbers alike, since the very first expeditions
to the Nepalese side of Everest in the 1950’s. To
see as much as possible of this stunning part of Nepal,
we have put together a superb trekking holiday in Nepal’s
high Khumbu district which explores the two principal valleys
of the area, and includes the ascents of two of the most
breath-taking vantage points for Everest, namely Kala Patar
and Gokyo Ri.
This itinerary also offers the option to trek up to the
Base camp area of Everest. This circuit trek provides a
taste of the Khumbu that is second to none, and offers an
excellent challenge to the ambitious trekker on his or her
first Himalayan trip. This great itinerary begins with a
trek from the airstrip at Lukla to Namche Bazaar and onwards
to the holy lakes at Gokyo, before crossing the quite challenging
and spectacular Cho La to enter the main Khumbu Valley,
close to the base camp for the south side of Everest. The
return journey to the Khumbu capital of Namche Bazaar is
on the main Everest Trail, leading through many small Sherpa
villages and including visits to the famous monasteries
at Pangboche and Thyangboche. Highlights of this excellent
trek are the accessible summits of Gokyo Ri and Kala Patar
which each provide magnificent views of the Southwest Face
of Everest. We also take the opportunity to visit Everest
Base camp for a closer look at the spectacular “Khumbu
Icefall” The climbing route to the South Col, the
route taken on the first ascent. |

(Option:) Kathmandu sightseeing
We will be visiting three of the famous heritage
sites in Kathmandu. You will visit first the Swayambunath
Stupa (Monkey Temple). It is said that Swayambunath
Stupa is more than 2,000 years old, and it symbolizes
knowledge. The painted eyes on all four sides
symbolize the all-seeing power of Buddha. It is
an important Buddhist place where pilgrims from
all over the world come. It is situated to the
west of the city on a hill some 77 meters above
the valley.
It is a 30 minutes drive to Boudhanath Stupa,
another important Buddhist pilgrims site. This
ancient Stupa is considered one of the biggest
in the World. Every morning and evening, many
Buddhist devotees come here to pray and circumambulate
enabling the visitors to observe local religious
practices.
The sacred Hindu temple Pashupatinath is considered
the holiest cremation ground, and people bathe
in the Bagmati River with a faith of cleansing
themselves spiritually. Many Sadhus or Hindu Ascetics
live here. During religious festivals, Hindus
come to make offerings, and it is sometimes very
crowded.
