The Annapurna Region :
The Annapurna region is one of the few trekking areas in Nepal where year round trekking is not only possible but also enjoyable. The northern part of the region receives little of the monsoon rain since it's shielded by the Annapurnas and other ranges.
Mountain viewing is a prime reason for going trekking, so it's not surprising that the most popular trekking seasons correspond to when the Himalaya are at their clearest and most dramatic and the weather is neitherddd too cold nor too wet. The number of visitors to the Annapurna region is highest in October and November.
Route oprions:
The popularity of the Annapurna region with trekkers is entirely understandable. Amongst some of the most dramatic scenery in the world there are trekking routes to suit all seasons and levels of fitness.
The main trekking routes in the Annapurna region follow the two major rivers valleys and the trail into the Annapurna Sanctuary via Ghandruk and Chomrong. As well as these main routes there are many alternative trails and short cuts offering trekkers numerous possibilites. The options are even greater for those with camping equipment who can explore some of the rarely trekked high altitude routes.
Planning your route:
Most people are constrained by time. A common mistake when route planning is to try to pack in too much. Your trek, which should be a holiday and escape from the busy schedules of work or study, then becomes a race against the time. It's far better not to trek every day but have some rest day, to fully acclimatized and enjoy the beauty of the place that you are passing through.
And don't forget to allow at two nights in Kathmandu to collect your trekking permit and to get your trekking gear ready. Plus extra days if you're flying to Jomsom in case planes are delayed.
